Spark
showcases Zav RT’s new instrument – the 5-string
viola that she has lovingly penned the “fiddola” – a
new musical partner in guitarist Andy Hillhouse and her dedication
to exploring a variety of musical styles. Ten original compositions
and two well-chosen cover tunes that feature Andy on vocals are
spiced with flavours from the folk, celtic and world music genres.
A jig is layered with a funk groove, traditional fiddle tunes carry
elements of jazz and an instrumental duet with slide guitarist
Harry Manx touches on Eastern blues elements. Zav RT is creating
fresh, vibrant West Coast fiddle music based on an age-old tradition,
establishing a new modern branch on the folk tree. An auditory “fiddola” feast!
